Catholic Palm Sunday

Every year, a week before Easter, Christians celebrate Palm Sunday (for Orthodox Christians – Palm Sunday, because palm trees do not grow on the territory of the Slavs). The holiday is also called the Lord’s Entry into Jerusalem: according to the biblical legend, Jesus arrived in Jerusalem riding a donkey, and the people welcomed him, paving the way with palm leaves. In 2022, Catholics will celebrate Palm Sunday on April 10.

On Palm Sunday liturgies are held, which have both a positive mood (praising Jesus) and a negative one (it was Christ’s arrival in Jerusalem that led to his death). In addition, believers read the Old Testament and consecrate palm branches. In Jerusalem, the Franciscans organize a procession through the city.
