A day without music

Every year on November 21, the Day Without Music is celebrated – this is an unofficial holiday, which was founded in 2005 by the Scottish music producer and musician Bill Drummond. He sought to draw people’s attention to the cheapening of music as art and mindless consumption in the modern world. The date of the celebration was chosen in connection with the approach of the Catholic church holiday in memory of Cecilia of Rome, who was the patroness of classical music.

On the Day without Music, it is customary to stop broadcasting music on the radio, some cafes and shops also join the action. The cinema of the Austrian city of Linz was especially distinguished when it showed films without soundtracks on November 21, 2009.
