School day of non-violence and peace

January 30 is celebrated School day of non-violence and peace. Its celebration was proposed in 1964 by the Spanish poet Lorenzo Vidal Vidal. All his conscious life, this talented person defended the ideas of pacifism, opposing violence in any of its manifestations.

The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of Mahatma Gandhi, who was the clearest example of the implementation of the philosophy of non-violence. Having the opportunity to live in luxury and having received a higher education in London, he fought throughout his life against caste inequality and sought India’s independence through peaceful means. Unfortunately, in an irony of life, on January 30, 1948, he died a violent death at the hands of religious fanatics.

Despite the fact that the holiday is not celebrated at the state and official level, every year on this day, many educational institutions hold lectures and events aimed at maintaining and spreading the idea of nonviolence.
