Mykytin day

Every year on February 13, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the saint Nikita Pecherskyi, who is also called Nikita the Fireman. People call this a holiday Nikitin day.

It is known that Saint Nikita came from Kyiv and was a bishop. In his youth, Nikita Pechersky became a monk, after which he led a secluded, humble and honest life, helping people.

The saint is considered the patron saint of fire, so on February 13, one should pray to Nikita the Fireman to protect him from fire and lightning. According to legends, the saint was able to cause rain with just one wave, saving the earth from drought and fire.

To Nikitin Day there are many signs. For example, if crows scream loudly, it will snow. Circles in the sun portend a good harvest. If the night is clear, then the weather will be sunny, but the white fire in the oven is cold and damp.

On February 13, it’s better to stay at home so you don’t get bullied and avoid quarrels. In addition, you need to be extremely careful with fire and maintain order in the house.
