Memorial Day of Saint Theodore of Constantinople

On January 9, the Christian world celebrates the day of memory of Saint Theodore of Constantinople. He was born in the first half of the 7th century. As a child, the boy received spiritual education, but Theodore accepted the priestly rank after reaching maturity.

He immediately began to serve in the church of Saint Sophia, which was considered the main cathedral in the empire. For his wisdom and sincere loyalty to the Lord, he was nominated as a member of the Patriarchal Council. And after the death of Patriarch Constantine the First, the emperor himself turned to Theodore with a request to take over the management of the church.

From 676 to 678, Saint Theodore was the Patriarch of Constantinople. But his pious life caused envy, so opponents wrote a slander, which became the reason for removing Theodore from this position.

Instead of taking revenge and cursing his enemies, the saint continued to serve diligently. In 683, Theodore was again elevated to the Patriarchal throne, which he held until his death in 686.
