Flashlight Day
December 21 is the shortest day of the year, so it is no coincidence that this day is celebrated all over the world Flashlight Day.
The first portable lantern was invented and developed by David Maisell in 1898, who, together with his friend Konrad Hubert, founded Ever Ready, a company for the development and sale of electric lanterns.
The biggest fans of portable lanterns at that time were police officers, as this invention became a reliable and indispensable assistant during the night period of their working hours – the “night sun”. One of the significant advantages, unlike its predecessors, was safety in use, because it ceased to be the cause of a fire that could arise from carelessness. And it was easy to turn on and off.
With each subsequent year lanterns were updated New models appeared on the shelves, which contained additional elements that facilitated their use and increased popularity among the population.
You can celebrate this day in different ways. For example, gather a group of friends and take a walk in the night forest with flashlights. Invite friends home, make warm tea with goodies, light lanterns and spend time with a warm conversation. Since the winter solstice is a special day and is considered the shortest day of the year, this is another reason to turn on the lantern and illuminate the shortest day of winter.
Accept the light and warmth that others give you, and share yours – so there will be a little more light and goodness.
