Microwave birthday
Every year on December 6, the world celebrates Microwave Day. American Percy Spencer became the author of an indispensable assistant for many housewives.
The engineer drew attention to the property of ultra-high-frequency waves to heat products, thanks to one case – when he went near a magneton (a lamp that generates microwave waves), the chocolate in his pocket melted.
The inventor received a patent for the use of these waves in cooking in 1945. And in 1949, the Raytheon company presented the world with the first furnace. At that time, they were very bulky – their height reached almost 183 centimeters, and their weight – 340 kilograms, so they were intended only for the needs of the army.
But in the form familiar to us, they were first made in Japan in 1962 by the “Sharp” Corporation.
