International Theater Day
Every year on March 27, the world celebrates a creative holiday, which is also considered a professional holiday of theater workers – International Theater Day. The event was initiated by the International Theater Institute, namely the Frenchman Jean Cocteau (actor, writer, director, artist, etc.) in 1961. The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the first theatrical performance in Ancient Rome (the historical probability of this event is unconfirmed).
Theatrical art appeared in Ancient Greece, where costumed performances were organized in honor of the god Dionysus. Later, having gone through a long path of development, the theater separated from the religious and folk orientation into an independent type of art.
Now with theater related specialists of various professions: directors, screenwriters, scenographers, set designers, composers, choreographers, make-up artists, ticket takers, illuminators, costume designers and, of course, actors.
International Theater Dayin addition to thanking theater workers, aims to honor the theater as part of our culture.
