International Earthquake Action Day
On October 17, many countries around the world celebrate the International Earthquake Action Day. Human behavior during an earthquake is difficult to predict. In matters of human psychology during natural disasters, great attention is paid to the psychology of fear. Fear is a signal of alarm, unpleasant sensations, but also a signal for protection. The main purpose of emotion is to stay alive, to prolong one’s existence.
It is this fear that causes mental disorders in a person in a stalemate, which become a factor in improper behavior. First, there is a phase of acute motor reaction, and after it very often there is a phase of a depressive state, which is characterized by motor retardation. According to research data, the cause of more than 60% of injuries during earthquakes among the population is precisely the unconscious actions of the victims themselves due to fear and panic.
This day is held to remind people once again how important it is to keep calm, how to behave during earthquakes, which actions can save lives, and which will lead to irreparable situations.
