The purpose of the International Day to Combat Illegal and Unregulated Fishing

The initiative to declare this day was put forward in 2015 by representatives of the General Commission on Fisheries. At the session, they revealed the issue of illegal fishing in the Mediterranean and proposed to adopt an Agreement on this issue.

The committee supported this initiative and announced it on June 5 every year International Day of Combating Illegal and Unregulated Fishing. The purpose of the introduction of the date is to draw the attention of the masses to the issues of protecting the fauna of the seas and oceans. Such fishing leads to the destruction of some fish species and the disruption of entire ecosystems in certain regions.
