International Cabernet Day

In the first decade of September, the Thursday before Labor Day is celebrated in the United States International Cabernet Day. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety is the most common in the world and is found in almost all wine-growing regions. It is the result of crossing such varieties as Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc.

The holiday was started by Rick Bakas in California in 2010. According to one of the versions – in order to free the warehouses before the new harvest. Later, the celebration was picked up all over the world.

Interesting Facts

  • Cabernet wine contains a lot of tannin, a natural antioxidant that fights heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, drinking 150 ml of wine per day is considered more useful than its complete absence. However, it should not be abused.
  • Cabernet Sauvignon is the most weather-resistant variety. This explains its wide distribution. It perfectly withstands sudden changes in temperature, drought and can grow even in the desert. However, this grape does not always ripen even in its homeland – in Bordeaux.
