International Women’s Sports Day originally from France. This holiday was approved with the support of the Ministry of Sports and the State Secretariat for Gender Equality and Combating Discrimination. In 2014, the problem of sexualization and violence against women in sports was acute. Therefore, it was decided that measures should be taken to improve the standard of living and health of French sportswomen.

Roxana Marasinianu, as the Minister of the Sports Delegation, carried out large-scale measures for the launch of this holiday: support for the promotion of women in sports, feminization of governing bodies, ensuring respect for women in sports and strict control over cases of gender inequality in competitions. Such holidays are necessary for European countries for progressive and equal treatment of both men and women.
