Birthday of the English hairpin

He celebrates his birthday every year on April 10 English hairpin, because it was on this day in 1849 that engineer Walter Hunt from America invented a pin, the tip of which is covered with a cap. This design protects a person from a sudden injection.

Why English and not American? The fact is that almost immediately after Hunt, the Englishman Charles Rowley received a patent for a similar pin, which quickly spread around the world.

Things similar to modern hairpins were used even in ancient times. In the Middle Ages, a pin was used to fasten paper.

Now English hairpin is an accessory, an amulet, and a remedy for convulsions, as well as a device for attaching something to clothing (for example, breastplates).
