World plumbing day is an international event initiated by the World Plumbing Council (World Plumbing Day), held on March 11 every year. The World Council of Plumbers sets itself the task of engaging various bodies, such as the World Health Organization, to promote the benefits of plumbing. In 2010, the organization decided to introduce World plumbing daywhich would promote the importance of this profession.
So, every year on March 11, plumbers from all over the world celebrate World plumbing day. The holiday is marked in red in the calendar of plumbers, installers, designers of heating, sewage and water supply systems. The purpose of the holiday is to recognize the important role of the plumbing profession in social life and in maintaining the health and well-being of mankind.
How did the idea to celebrate World Plumber Day come about?
The origins of this profession go back to ancient times. Archaeologists claim that the first toilets appeared in the second millennium BC. During excavations in the territory inhabited by the ancient Sumerians, an exquisite wooden toilet seat with carved patterns was found. The excavation dates back to 2500 BC.
Work on the territory of Europe plumbers was valued as early as the 20th century BC. They manufactured, installed, serviced and repaired the plumbing equipment of those times. But the inhabitants of China began to use water for draining natural human waste in the early 100s BC. At this time, analogues of modern plumbing equipment and specialists who manufacture and service them begin to appear in the Celestial Empire.
In ancient Rome, a carefully thought-out system of fountains, water pipes and drains was created, which was worked on by true professionals – plumbers of the time. Complex clay communications, unique technical solutions are admired by modern plumbers.
Dark Middle Ages
The cities of medieval Europe were full of unpleasant odors, and the streets played the role of sewers, as excrement in those days poured directly from the windows. Plumbing equipment began to appear at the beginning of the 19th century.
The first toilet, which in its design resembles a modern one, appeared in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. Its author and manufacturer was the plumber Thomas Krepper. The name “toilet” comes from the Spanish company Unitas, which was the first to produce this sanitary equipment. Since 1909, the mass production of plumbing products begins.

During the times of the Soviet Union, the image of a plumber was somewhat negative and bore the imprint of a low-paid and poorly educated worker. Today the situation has changed dramatically. Modern plumbers are highly qualified specialists who are constantly developing, studying the latest technologies, learning to work with new materials.
Good specialists are in great demand today. Their services are needed during capital construction of residential and industrial buildings, reconstruction of old premises, etc. If plumbing equipment breaks down or you need to clean the sewage system, you simply cannot do without a plumber. As the prestige of the profession grew, so did the wages of these specialists.

This day helps to understand how important the plumber’s profession is, because not only comfort in the house, but also the health of each person depends on it. After all, the state of health is directly related to compliance with sanitary and hygienic norms.
