Reclamation day

On the first Sunday of June, reclamation workers of Ukraine celebrate a professional holiday — Reclamation day. Their work is necessary in agriculture, because the yield of crops depends on the correct land reclamation. Therefore, at the beginning of summer, the holiday is celebrated by workers whose work consists in land reclamation, this day is celebrated by real workers of land and agriculture. The holiday was introduced on May 24, 1976.

Who are reclamationists?

Melioration — these are complex works aimed at the rational use of natural land resources. They cover a set of measures regarding soils, water bodies, forests to ensure order and restoration of lands.

The importance of the reclamation profession is difficult to deny, because it covers a number of jobs in the field of agriculture and farming:

• chemical, cultural and technical, hydromelioration;
• soil treatment in areas of complex agriculture;
• improving the health of the natural environment;
• a set of measures to contain snow, flooding.

Long-term use of Ukrainian land for obtaining huge crops gradually led to the deterioration of the ecological situation and unstable use of resources. These problems are solved by land reclamationists.
