International Dot Day

Since 2009, September 15 has been held around the world International Dot Day. This project owes its origin to the book «Dot». It was written in 2003 by the English writer and artist Peter G. Reynolds. The main protagonist of the story is the girl Vashti, who simply put dots on the paper with a pencil to show and convince everyone of her inability to draw. But the resulting patterns and the teacher’s help set the stage for discoveries, victories and surprises.

Reynolds’ story did not go unnoticed, teachers began to use it in the real learning process to reveal the creative potential of students, to give them motivation and confidence. The first such teacher was Terry Shay from Iowa. He presented this book to his students on September 15, 2009. This was the beginning for the establishment of an international holiday.

Now the influence of this international day and the book «Dot» is so great that the holiday is celebrated in more than 190 countries of the world and by more than 19 million people.
