International day against intolerance, discrimination and violence based on music preference, lifestyle and dress code

International day against intolerance, discrimination and violence based on music preference, lifestyle and dress codecelebrated every year on August 24.

History of the International Day Against Intolerance, Discrimination and Violence Based on Music Preference, Lifestyle and Dress Code

This memorial day was started by Sylvia Lancaster after her daughter Sophie was beaten to death with her boyfriend on August 24, 2007 in Rossendale, England, just because she belonged to the “goth” subculture and did not look like everyone else.

Sophie Lancaster Foundation

In an effort to reach the hearts of young people, Sylvia created the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, which worked in schools with young people and provided education to adults about crime against the background of intolerance and violence against supporters of non-standard music styles and lifestyles. The purpose of the foundation is to convey to people that everyone is equal and everyone should be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of how a person dresses, looks or what music he listens to.

How is this day celebrated?

You can mark the day by reviewing your attitude towards people whose lifestyle differs from established norms, towards those who dress differently and listen to different music.
