International Circus Day
Every year, on the third Saturday of April, a young professional holiday is celebrated – International Circus Day (World Circus Day). In 2022, the celebration falls on April 16. The event was launched by the World Circus Federation in 2010.
Circus appeared in Ancient Rome, but served as a place for races and gladiator fights, which is different from today’s image of the circus. Modern circus art was started by the Englishman Philip Astley at the end of the 18th century. Astley decided to demonstrate tricks on horses in the circus arena.
Now circus art has a much broader concept: it includes illusionism, acrobatics, clowning, pantomime, etc.
To International Circus Day organize promotions, exhibitions, high-profile shows.
