International Beaver Day

Every year, the world celebrates April 7 International Beaver Day. The holiday appeared in 2009. The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the birthday of Dorothy Richards, who studied beavers for 50 years.

Beavers have an extremely large role in the ecology of our planet, because the dams built by these animals restore wetlands, clean reservoirs, reduce the effects of droughts and floods, absorb carbon dioxide, regulate flow, etc. In addition, the beaver population makes it possible to significantly save on the construction of artificial grounds, which are still inferior to natural ones.

International Beaver Day aims to draw attention to these animals, raise awareness of the importance of dams built by beavers, and encourage the increase of beaver populations. On April 7, they organize hikes and distribute important information about beavers.
