Independence Day of the Republic of Gabon

August 17 is celebrated annually Independence Day of the Republic of Gabon, timed to obtain sovereignty in July 1960. Since 1839, the country was a French colony.

Since Gabon was declared a republic, this state is the most stable country on the African continent with the highest per capita income. Celebrations of Independence are held very lavishly and on a grand scale. August 16 and 17 are official holidays in the country. National parades, traditional drum and dance shows are held on these days.
