Day of wonderful weirdos

September 9 is celebrated in the United States of America and some other countries around the world Day of wonderful weirdos. The holiday was started in 2000 in Austin, Texas. A group of Austin residents decided that a day was needed to celebrate people with unusual behavior, appearance and other oddities. The purpose of the celebration was to show that queers, of which there are many in Austin, are one of a kind. Queer Day was organized by Thomas Roy under the general slogan “Keep Austin Weird”. This slogan decorated the t-shirts and bumpers of the participants’ cars. Since 2000, this holiday has been held annually.

  • You don’t have to be a weirdo to join the celebration. On this day, it is enough to dress strangely or act strangely.
  • You can also unite with friends, invent some non-existent language and communicate it in crowded places, for example, in public transport. It’s weird, but super fun!
  • You can also celebrate this day by watching weird movies, listening to weird music, or trying weird foods like century eggs or haggis (a Scottish dish made from lamb offal).
