Christmas of Nicholas the Wonderworker
What is this event?
August 11 is celebrated in Ukraine Christmas of Nicholas the Wonderworker, who is one of the most revered Christian saints. Unlike other popular holidays, such as Saint Nicholas Day or Spring Nicholas Day, Orthodoxy did not mention this Christmas for a long time.
The Christmas of Nicholas the Wonderworker was introduced during the baptism of Kyivan Rus in the 9th century. At the end of the 18th century, it was canceled by Catherine II, as a result of which the holiday was forgotten for a long time. Christmas was restored by the Orthodox Church in 2004.
