Anthony’s day
Anthony’s day January 30 was celebrated by our ancestors with joy, because most of the cold season was already behind, and therefore, spring is not far away. Anthony the Great is considered the founder of monasticism and hermit clergy.
The monk was born in Egypt, in a rich family that raised a righteous man according to Christian canons. After the death of parents Anthony the Great donated his inheritance to the poor and needy, and settled in a cave, practicing spiritual development. After that, he was forced to seek refuge in the ruins of the fortress, where he stayed for 20 years. Antony founded a monastery, but he visited there very rarely, coming only to instruct students and believers.
The monk was acquainted with Paul of Thebes, who was also a spiritual recluse, and after his death he was engaged in the burial of Paul. Anthony died at the age of 105 in his cave.
