World Wetlands Day

Every year, February 2 is celebrated by the planet World Wetlands Day. This event was launched together with the signing of the Convention on Wetlands in 1971 in the city of Ramsar (Iran).

The initial purpose of such a Convention was to preserve the territory of waterfowl, over time the purpose of the event was expanded: currently World Wetlands Day aims at the conservation and balanced use of these ecosystems, which is extremely important for nature.

At the global level, the event has been celebrated since 1997, choosing a separate theme (motto) every year. On February 2, thematic events and various promotions are organized, Ukraine also takes an active part.

We must remember that wetlands help produce food products. At least one billion of the world’s population depends on wetlands.
