International Animal Rights Day
Every year on the same day as Human Rights Day – December 10, the world community celebrates Animal Rights Day. The date proposed by the UN General Assembly in 1998 was not chosen by chance – it emphasizes that animals have the same rights to life and freedom as humans.
This day unites all those who stand up for the protection of animals, and aims to draw the attention of humanity to moral and ethical problems related to animals. That is why mass actions and charity events have been held all over the world on December 10 for more than 20 years. In them, activists call to abandon cruel treatment of “our smaller brothers”. Starting with pets and ending with exotic and wild animals, the population of which is rapidly decreasing every year.
Of course, Ukraine has its own regulations and laws that protect animals from cruelty. But it should be noted that in other countries the laws are much stricter. So, in China, for killing a panda, the criminal can be punished with life imprisonment or even lose his life. And most European countries and the USA punish offenders not only with significant fines, but also with imprisonment for up to 3 years.
