World Pest Control Day
On the first Sunday of June in different countries World Pest Control Day is celebrated. This holiday is also called World Pest Awareness Day.
The purpose of World Pest Control Day
The date was launched very recently – in 2017. The main purpose of the celebration is the need to convey to people that pests cause trouble not only for farming. They spread a huge number of dangerous diseases.
- to increase the level of awareness of humanity;
- prevent diseases from pests;
- improve various areas of pest control;
- draw attention to possible threats.
Importance of World Pest Control Day
The holiday was initiated by the China Pest Control Association. The head of the organization, Xu Jianguo, noted that recently there are more and more cases of various dangerous diseases caused by pests – yellow fever, Zika virus, malaria, dengue fever, etc. Disease carriers are harmful insects and rodents.
- Every year, more than a million people worldwide die from diseases caused by pests. More than a billion people live in areas with an increased risk of infection with pathogens that are transmitted by pests. They include not only rodents and insects. These are also plants, hedgehogs, pigeons.
More than 30 organizations of the international level have joined the initiative of the Chinese association.
