Day of Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
On November 21 every year, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Airborne Assault Troops, which appeared in 2017 along with the replacement of the name of the Airborne Troops with Airborne Assault Troops. The former professional holiday was called the Day of Highly Mobile Airborne Troops. The first celebration took place in our capital on Mykhailivska Square, where the army received updated symbols from the President of Ukraine.
Currently, the airborne assault troops are separate troops that are part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They are involved in the anti-terrorist operation zone, as well as during special or peacekeeping operations. Paratroopers cover the enemy vertically and work in his rear. The event was initiated with the aim of reviving the military equality of the Ukrainian nation, forming patriotism and establishing new traditions for honoring this kind of troops.
Zhytomyr is considered the capital of the airborne assault troops – the training center and the stationed command of the Airborne Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are located in this city. There is even a street in the city named Heroes of Paratroopers.
