International Men’s Day

What day is it?

Women are so in need of male attention, they are waiting for someone who can listen to them and hug them. However, very often they forget that men also need support and hugs. They need their strength and courage to be recognized and valued accordingly. Father, brother, boyfriend, fiancé – everyone will be happy to celebrate their day as brightly as women on the eighth of March. Men are absolutely no less concerned about the well-being of the family and raising children. The international community decided to make a men’s holiday to emphasize all this and once again draw attention to it. Men’s Day is celebrated annually on November 19.

How did the idea to celebrate International Men’s Day come about?

Thoughts about creating such a holiday began to appear in the 1960s. However, this idea was not given much importance.

The people of Trinidad and Tobago became the first to celebrate Men’s Day. After that, a professor from the University of the West Indies in the 1990s suggested making a holiday only for men, regardless of age and type of activity. He believed that there is gender injustice in the world regarding men and their role in society. He suggested his father’s birthday as the date of International Men’s Day, because he considered him a real man and a worthy role model.

This initiative was supported first by the countries of the Caribbean basin, and then by Europe, North America and Asia. Subsequently, the holiday was recognized in other countries of the world and received the support of the UN and UNESCO. Thus, International Men’s Day is celebrated annually on November 19.
