The people of Trinidad and Tobago became the first to celebrate Men’s Day. After that, a professor from the University of the West Indies in the 1990s suggested making a holiday only for men, regardless of age and type of activity. He believed that there is gender injustice in the world regarding men and their role in society. He suggested his father’s birthday as the date of International Men’s Day, because he considered him a real man and a worthy role model.
This initiative was supported first by the countries of the Caribbean basin, and then by Europe, North America and Asia. Subsequently, the holiday was recognized in other countries of the world and received the support of the UN and UNESCO. Thus, International Men’s Day is celebrated annually on November 19.
