Great Martyr Catherine
On December 7, the great Christian holiday of Catherine the Great Martyr is celebrated. It is believed that the holiday helps girls get married successfully. Therefore, many omens and fortune-telling are associated with this day.
Catherine was born in the family of the ruler of Alexandria. Already at the age of 17, the girl was distinguished by her beauty and intelligence. She made a loud statement that she would marry only the man who would surpass her in beauty, learning and nobility. But among those who sought her hand, there were none.
Once, an old man came to Kateryna and presented her with an icon with a portrait of the Mother of God holding baby Jesus. At the same time, the girl decided to learn about the Christian faith and after some time accepted it into her heart.
Catherine convinced many people of the truth of this teaching. But for her indomitable will and unshakable faith in Jesus Christ, she will be captured and executed. Angels carried her body to the temple of the Sinai Monastery, and later Catherine was recognized as the Holy Great Martyr.
