Day of Crimean resistance to Russian occupation

February 26 is celebrated Day of Crimean resistance to Russian occupation. On this day in 2014, a rally of peaceful citizens protesting the holding of the session of the Verkhovna Rada of the republic was organized under the fence of the Crimean Parliament. At the extraordinary meeting, the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the transfer of Crimea to the status of a Russian peninsula were to be discussed. On December 26, at the initiative of the Mejlis, a rally was organized by pro-Ukrainian citizens who opposed the decision of the Crimean deputies.

It was this day that entered the history of Ukraine as Day of resistance of the Crimean Tatar people to the Russian occupation. In 2021, the celebration acquired official status in accordance with the decree of the President of Ukraine. On this day, citizens honor the heroism and desperation of the residents of Crimea, who were not afraid to confront the pro-Russian invaders.
