European Day Against Human Trafficking

October 18 is the European Day against Human Trafficking. The holding of this day was announced for the first time in 2007 by the European Parliament. The vocation of this day is to draw society’s attention to the problem of human trafficking and to the victims of this terrible, immoral and illegal activity.

Human trafficking is a distorted manifestation of slavery, a criminal business that violates basic human rights. Anyone can suffer from it: women and men are forced into sexual and labor slavery, children are forced to beg on the streets, to steal; organ trade is booming. According to statistics, this type of criminal activity is spreading the fastest. The annual amount of money from such activities is approximately 30 billion dollars, which is second only to the drug trade. According to unconfirmed data, approximately 4 million people are transported across the borders of different countries for forced labor per year.

It is important to draw the attention of the whole world to this problem, because it is impossible to solve it at the level of one country. This threat requires the efforts of every person and every country.
